Description
In Piperia, Almopia, just 5 km from the Pozar Thermal Baths and Aridaia, lie the vineyards, winery, and traditional distillery of Konakoglou.
Ioannis Konakoglou, after completing his studies at the University of West Attica, worked as an oenologist for the Tsantali company. Seeking to expand his wine expertise, he continued his education at WSPC, a globally recognized wine school, and later at Genius in Gastronomy.
Having acquired knowledge and extensive experience, he founded the winery with the goal of producing wines that highlight the unique characteristics of each grape variety and the region from which they originate.
The privately owned vineyards span 100 stremmas (approx. 24.7 acres) across the greater Almopia area. The grape varieties are cultivated in plots that differ significantly from one another. To showcase the distinct expressions of each variety in different soil types, experimental winemaking is conducted, where grapes of the same variety are placed in separate tanks according to the vineyard they come from.
In a space dominated by stone and wood, where absolute silence and darkness prevail, the wines rest under ideal conditions for as long as necessary.
Our goal, in collaboration with other wineries in Almopia, is to promote wine tourism in the region: walking among the vineyards, entering the winemaking facilities, touring the cellar corridors where wines mature and age, and enjoying tastings in specially designed spaces with views of the vineyards and Mount Kaimaktsalan.
